What is a promotional video?
The characteristics of an effective promotional video.
A promotional video, also known as a corporate film, is an extremely effective tool for companies, government agencies, organizations, associations, and institutions to convey their core messages in just a few minutes, primarily on an emotional level. Unlike earlier industrial films, which often lasted 20 minutes or longer, a promotional film today should be between one and five minutes long.
A corporate video is a short portrait of a company, a brand, or a product. It serves the purposes of advertising and brand building. The main goal is to create a positive image using audiovisual means. Similar to TV commercials, image films have a promotional purpose, but they are often designed as portraits and can stylistically resemble journalistic or documentary films.
There are various types of promotional videos, which differ in structure and format. The effort and costs involved vary depending on the film project.
Promotional videos can be used for a variety of purposes, such as:
attracting new customers, trade shows, marketing, recruiting, and product launches
A well-made promotional video is a valuable asset for any brand and can serve as a starting point for additional video content, especially on social media. Overall, the promotional video acts as an effective showcase for companies.
Here are three characteristics of a successful corporate presentation:
Storytelling
A good corporate video packages the company’s message into a compelling story. This evokes emotions in the target audience and fosters long-term brand loyalty.
A corporate video shares some similarities with advertising, but there are also differences. An outstanding corporate video places greater emphasis on emotions. It aims not only to showcase the company but also to anchor a positive image in the viewer’s memory. Ideally, the video evokes positive and exciting emotions.
This works best when the company presents itself authentically while keeping the core message front and center. Interesting information should frame this message. Clear and compelling statements, such as statistics or testimonials, help the viewer understand what is being said and perceive it as credible.
SEO
High-quality video content significantly improves your search engine ranking. The longer users stay on your website, the more it signals to Google that your content is relevant.
YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world, right after Google. In addition, Google often suggests relevant videos in response to search queries. When you upload your promotional video to YouTube, it’s crucial to optimize the title and description for Google’s ranking algorithm. This ensures that your video appears prominently in search results.
You can also use YouTube to place a link to your website or your contact information in a prominent location. This way, potential customers who come across your business through a Google search can easily find you.
Employer Branding
Corporate videos not only help you reach potential customers, but also attract qualified talent. Millennials and Generation Z, in particular, place great importance on corporate culture and values. A corporate video presents your company as an attractive employer in a creative way.
A successful image video is therefore characterized by authenticity, high quality, and conciseness, as it links messages to products and brands. The focus is on creating a positive image. Unlike product videos, a corporate video often does not focus on a specific product or service, but rather on the company’s philosophy.
Our mission is to transform this philosophy into moving images. Using creative and technical tools, we’ll turn your promotional video into a powerful tool for inviting your audience into your world.
For us, the image video is the crown jewel of corporate video formats. It’s an opportunity for a production company or agency to demonstrate that it understands a company’s DNA and can translate that into a film concept that portrays the company as it sees itself and—just as importantly—as it wants to be perceived by the outside world.
Thanks to our decades of experience, we know exactly what matters. Take a look at our sample videos and don’t hesitate to contact us for a free consultation.

PLATH Group: Data-Driven Early Crisis Detection
The PLATH Group, headquartered in Hamburg, is a family-owned, medium-sized group of companies. It possesses extensive expertise in the field of data-driven crisis prevention and is divided into five highly specialized business units. The group supplies the market with dedicated products, systems, and services. In total, the group comprises 15 companies with over 550 employees in Germany, Europe, and Asia.
Our task was to use a promotional video to give the group a face and explain what PLATH does. The products and systems developed and marketed by the group are anything but trivial. Therefore, the biggest challenge was to strike the right balance between information and emotion and to highlight what all the companies have in common: data-driven early crisis detection.

Fischkaufhaus: The Müritz Fishermen's Delicatessen
Among our many tasks: producing a profile of the fish market, which moved just a few months ago to significantly larger and more prestigious premises. The beautifully designed store is located right next to the Müritzfischer production facility in Waren. Here, every fish lover’s wish comes true. Whether it’s fish fresh from the surrounding waters or specialties from around the world: here, fish is king!
And yet there’s so much more to discover at the Fischkaufhaus than “just” fish! A variety of specialties—especially regional products—perfectly round out the selection. These include game meat, spirits, honey, cheese, specialty sausages, and several meters of shelves stocked with select canned fish. A great project for a really friendly client, filmed in one of Germany’s most beautiful regions.
What are the criteria for a promotional video?
The formula for success in creating an effective promotional video.
Careful planning and consideration of key factors are essential for a successful image video. A professionally produced promotional video is more than just a presentation tool—it strengthens the brand image and effectively communicates the company’s values, as well as specific aspects such as innovation or tradition, to a broad audience. Below are the key elements that play a role in creating a successful promotional video.
Target Audience Focus
The messages in the promotional video should be clearly tailored to the desired target audience. Whether the audience consists of customers, partners, or the general public—the approach varies depending on the objective and the type of platform on which the video is published, such as the company website, LinkedIn, or YouTube. Precise targeting increases the impact and reach of the promotional video.
Authenticity and Narrative Style
A powerful corporate video tells a story that resonates with the audience and brings the company’s values to life. The video should be authentic and emotionally compelling to build trust and leave a lasting impression. Rather than being purely promotional, it should present the company in a way that sparks curiosity and interest.
Clarity and Focus
An effective image video is clearly structured and focused. The company’s core values and culture should be presented clearly and concisely, without getting lost in details. Focusing on key messages reinforces the message and leaves a lasting impression.
Professional Quality
Professional quality is crucial to the impact of a corporate video. High-quality footage, top-notch sound, and well-thought-out editing inspire confidence and showcase the company at its best. This is essential for promoting a positive image and the brand’s credibility.
Visual Introduction
A captivating opening is the key to immediately capturing the audience’s attention. A creative, engaging start—whether visually minimalist or dynamic—encourages the audience to keep watching and helps the company make a lasting impression.

KGAL: Real Estate as a Tangible Asset Investment
This promotional video was produced for our client KGAL in Munich. Our goal was to link the diversity of real estate locations and properties with the company’s philosophy and the criteria used to acquire and manage real estate.
This film was shot in Leipzig, Prague, and London. The promotional film premiered at EXPO REAL 2019 in Munich, the world’s largest real estate trade show. To make the most of it there, we incorporated the key messages using typography.
What are the benefits of a promotional video?
Why a promotional video is the perfect marketing tool.
A promotional video is much more than just a tool for building a company’s image. It offers numerous opportunities to showcase a company, its products, or its brand in a targeted way.
Success lies in precisely defining the target audience and tailoring the film to their needs. Whether the goal is to attract new customers, recruit employees, or showcase a company at a trade show—the promotional video can be flexibly adapted to meet a variety of needs.
More Than Just a Promotional Video
A corporate video not only enhances the company’s image but also shows the target audience who is behind the brand and what values the company stands for. By combining visual and auditory elements, it not only conveys information but also evokes emotions. Whether as a documentary-style film that offers an authentic glimpse into the company or as a staged production featuring creative ideas—the corporate video adapts perfectly to the specific requirements.
Information and Emotion
A successful corporate video not only conveys facts but also appeals to the viewers’ emotions. A distinction can be made between documentary and scripted approaches. Documentary-style promotional videos showcase real work processes and employees, which builds authenticity and trust. These videos are often filmed directly on the company’s premises, which not only enhances credibility but also saves costs. Dramatized promotional videos, on the other hand, rely on creative concepts brought to life with actors and professional filming locations. This approach allows for a more precise tailoring to the target audience, even though the effort and costs are higher.
Flexibility and Target Audience Focus
A corporate video offers a high degree of flexibility and can be used for a variety of purposes. It is suitable for attracting customers as well as for internal employer branding or for presentations at trade shows and on crowdfunding platforms. The focus and use of a promotional video depend heavily on the target audience you want to reach—whether they are customers, business partners, investors, or potential employees.
Long-term investment with a high ROI
Despite the costs associated with producing a corporate video, it is a long-term investment with a high return on investment (ROI). A corporate video has long-term positive effects on how a company is perceived and can be used in a variety of ways—from the company’s own website and social media to trade shows and other events.
A professionally produced promotional video is therefore an effective way to position a company for the long term and build trust with its target audience.

ACH: An Innovative Promotional Video
In 2023, we developed a unique promotional video with a recruitment focus for the Asklepios Campus Hamburg. Commissioned by Dr. Thorsten E. Thiel, the film showcases the hands-on training and the family-like atmosphere at ACH in collaboration with Semmelweis University.
What makes it special: The film is told from the perspective of a medical student—using a specially developed camera helmet to capture a realistic point-of-view (POV) perspective. This innovative narrative style conveys the benefits of studying at ACH in a concise and memorable way.
How long should a promotional video be?
The ideal length for your promotional video.
A high-quality promotional video captivates viewers with clear messages and engaging storytelling. The key is this: every second should add value. Videos that are too long risk losing the viewer’s attention, while those that are too short often don’t provide enough time to build an emotional connection or convey detailed information.
Target Audience
Who is the target audience for the promotional video?
Younger target audiences (e.g., Gen Z) prefer dynamic content that’s 30–60 seconds long. Shorter, dynamic videos are ideal for social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok.
B2B audiences often expect more detailed information and prefer videos that are 2–5 minutes long.
A more mature audience is more willing to consume longer, informative content (2–4 minutes).
Objective
The main objectives of your corporate video determine its optimal length:
Boost brand awareness: A 2–3-minute video allows you to showcase your company’s values and philosophy and build an emotional connection.
Product launch: Short and sweet—1–2 minutes are enough to highlight the benefits of a new product or service.
Explaining Complex Services: Videos lasting 3–5 minutes are ideal for detailed explanations.
Building Trust: Customer reviews or success stories can be presented authentically and persuasively in 2–3 minutes.
Location
The platform on which your promotional video is published plays a crucial role:
Instagram & X: Short videos (30–60 seconds) captivate viewers.
Facebook: 1–2 minutes is ideal for grabbing attention while users are scrolling.
YouTube & company website: Here, longer videos (2–5 minutes) can be used to present more comprehensive content.
Trade shows & presentations: Detailed videos lasting 3–5 minutes provide space for more information.
The ideal length of a promotional video depends on your objectives, your target audience, and the intended use. Whether it’s short and to the point or detailed and informative—what matters is that your video conveys the desired message and holds the audience’s attention.
We’ll help you create a promotional video that not only touches the hearts of your target audience but is also perfectly tailored to your goals. Contact us for a no-obligation initial consultation—we’ll get your message across clearly and concisely!

How is a promotional video produced?
Producing an impressive promotional video requires careful planning and a structured approach. Here, you’ll learn what the typical workflow for a promotional video production looks like.
The entire process, from the initial commission to the completion of the film, typically takes about one to three months. Please note, however, that the speed of your company’s internal approval processes may affect this timeframe.
Producing a promotional video requires expertise, creativity, and effective collaboration. Rely on our many years of experience to create a promotional video that showcases your company in the best possible light.
1. Concept Development and Goal Setting
The process of creating a promotional video begins with clearly defining your goals and analyzing your core messages. A detailed project plan and the development of a compelling storyline are crucial in this process.
2. Casting and Booking
Choosing the right performers, testimonials, or actors is of great importance. Authentic personalities bring your promotional video to life.
3. Shooting Schedule
Detailed planning for the shoot is essential. We find suitable locations, assemble a skilled film crew, and organize all the details, including technical equipment and props. A precise shooting schedule ensures that everyone on set knows exactly what to do.
4. Film shoot
The actual filming usually takes place at your company and lasts 1–3 days, depending on the length of the film and the complexity of the project. We make sure that everything goes according to plan and that, even if there are delays, all the necessary footage is captured.
5. Post-production
Once filming is complete, post-production begins. Your film will be edited, scored with music, and, if necessary, enhanced with animations. This process involves several rounds of revisions to ensure that the film perfectly reflects your vision.
6. Publication
Your finished promotional video is ready for release. We’ll handle the upload to the appropriate platforms and offer support with booking advertising spots. Whether for online distribution or TV/movie theaters—we’ll ensure that your video reaches the desired audience.

ISSA Construction: Safety in the Construction Industry
We produced a promotional video for ISSA Construction on the topic of VISION ZERO. Safety has been a top priority at PanFilm since the 1960s. Initially, we had various ideas for the project, including staged scenes and metaphorical approaches. Ultimately, our working group decided to use authentic scenes featuring real people to foster greater relatability and realism within the construction industry.
The film presents the seven golden rules for working safely in everyday life and at work through short vignettes. This underscores how the same safety principles apply both in the workplace and in personal life. The film premiered at the 31st International Symposium of the ISSA Section for the Construction Industry in Berlin in June 2022.

COG Classics: A Car Collector's Passion
Christian-Oscar Geyer— COG for short—turned his hobby into a career. Ever since he got his driver’s license, he has been an avid car collector. It all started with an MG, but over time, as his career flourished, his collection grew steadily.
At some point, he was faced with a decision: Should his beloved cars gather dust in the garage, or should they liven up the streets? He chose the latter and founded an exclusive company specializing in modern and classic cars. The promotional video uses an interview with Mr. Geyer as narration and combines it with footage of the vehicles he had for sale at the time, thus telling the story of Christian-Oscar Geyer and his business model.

pigadi: Expertise in Well Services
At the end of 2020, we produced this film for our client, pigadi GmbH in Berlin. Pigadi wanted an unconventional film that would grab people’s attention, with the company itself playing only a minor role.
In our concept, we tell the story of the importance of water and the necessity of wells from the perspective of water itself. The viewer is addressed directly by one of our planet’s most important elements. This unconventional approach has garnered a great deal of attention for the film.
How much does a promotional video cost?
Depending on your financial resources and your communication goals, producing a corporate video can be time-consuming and complex. However, this by no means implies that a simple video made on a more modest budget cannot be just as effective. To put it simply: We have the expertise to create engaging, high-production-value films when a large budget is available.
At the same time, however, we are just as capable of creating impressive films with limited financial resources. After all, it is always the idea that must align with our client’s goals. A tried-and-true rule of thumb is that the budget for your promotional video should be proportionate to the size of your organization.
Below, we would like to explain the various factors that influence the cost estimate for your promotional video:
Pre-production
Pre-production encompasses all steps taken before the actual filming begins. It includes client support and consultation, the conceptual development of the film’s content and visuals, organizing the crew and equipment, casting, scouting for suitable locations, obtaining filming permits, selecting props, and creating a storyboard.
Technical Specifications
A high-quality film requires the appropriate technical equipment. In addition to a high-quality camera, this includes various light sources, tripods, camera accessories such as sliders or cranes, monitors, and transmission modules for the control room. The use of a drone is often necessary.
Acting and Voice-Over
The costs for actors and voice actors can vary widely and depend on various factors. These include whether they are affiliated with an agency (which involves placement fees), their level of fame, and how the company plans to use the film.
Production
Production encompasses the actual days of filming. The number of crew members required and the technical requirements depend on the scope of the film. The core team typically consists of the director, cinematographer, lighting crew, and sound crew. Larger productions require additional technical and creative staff.
Post-production
During post-production, the footage is reviewed, edited, color-corrected, and processed in other ways to bring the planned concept to life. Animation and sound design can also play a role in this process.
Music Licensing
Music plays an important role in most promotional videos. It can either be selected from a library of pre-recorded, low-cost, GEMA-free tracks, or it can be more elaborate if custom music needs to be composed specifically for your video.
Correction Loop
The client usually has the opportunity to review the film and suggest changes. These changes may relate to aspects such as the film's length, the selection of scenes, and the music.
Additional Costs
Overhead costs include all expenses that are not directly related to the activities mentioned above but still incur costs. These include travel expenses, lodging costs, rental fees for filming locations, meals for crew and cast, expenses for props and costumes, administrative fees, and more.
It is important to understand that the cost of a promotional video depends on many individual factors and therefore cannot be determined on a flat-rate basis. Every film project is a unique work of craftsmanship and art that consists of a variety of steps. Fair compensation for these steps is crucial to ensuring that both the client and the contractor can enjoy their work.
It’s also important to keep in mind that prices for film productions can vary significantly depending on the efficiency and experience of the producers involved. If you come across fixed-price quotes, you should be aware that these often involve standardized productions.

HSVA: The History of the Shipbuilding Research Institute
Our promotional video, produced in 2013 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Hamburgische Schiffbau-Versuchsanstalt GmbH (HSVA), was long even by the standards of the time—an unusual choice, given today’s shorter attention spans and the prevalence of mobile video consumption.
But the answer to the question of whether longer films can still be effective is clear: Yes, if they are shown specifically to a specific audience, such as at celebrations, sales events, or product launches. More important than the actual runtime is how long the film feels.
The film offers fascinating insights into HSVA’s research work and ties it to the inspiring story of an employee whose career began at HSVA over 70 years ago.

The goal is to create a positive image and convey key messages on an emotional level. A promotional video combines visual and auditory elements to leave a lasting impression on viewers.
What are the benefits of a corporate video for businesses?
A promotional video strengthens the brand image, increases visibility, and has a compelling effect on customers, partners, and employees. In addition, high-quality video content improves a website’s SEO performance and increases the time visitors spend on the site.
How long should a promotional video be?

What’s important is that the video conveys the brand message clearly and authentically.
How does a promotional video contribute to search engine optimization (SEO)?
A promotional video increases the amount of time users spend on the website, which Google interprets as a sign of high-quality content. In addition, videos often rank well in search results, especially when they are uploaded to YouTube and tagged with optimized titles and descriptions. In this way, promotional videos boost visibility in search engines.
