More Information

Here at PanFilm, we have over 70 years of experience producing training films, particularly for occupational safety and health associations. One of our first training films was titled “In Case of Emergency” and was produced in 1962 on behalf of what was then known as BGFE, now known as BG ETEM.

This film addressed the crucial question of how employees should respond correctly in an emergency, such as an accident. Topics covered included the first steps to take, notifying the relevant people, and assigning tasks. At the time, these issues were impressively portrayed through dramatized scenes, similar to a feature film.

Kurt Wolfes, the founder of PanFilm, wrote the screenplay and directed the film. Although this film is already nearly sixty years old, the themes it explores are still extremely relevant and timeless.

What is a training video?

An Overview of the Characteristics of a Successful Training Film.

Training videos—also known as educational videos, explanatory videos, classroom videos, or instructional videos—are used to support classroom instruction in school or vocational settings, or to replace it entirely. Depending on the content to be conveyed, the format of a training video can vary greatly. Animations or drawings can be used to illustrate concepts that are difficult to capture on film, for example, or real-life sequences can be filmed and explained by a voice-over narrator or presenter to serve as a guide.

“Toms Life” marks the start of an exciting series of training films for BG BAU. Each of these short films focuses on an important PPE (personal protective equipment) topic and aims to instill the messages of “mindfulness” and “personal responsibility” in the minds of the target audience. The main character, Tom, takes on different roles in each film, ranging from a construction foreman to a regular worker. Each training film focuses on a specific aspect of PPE and tells a story that ultimately culminates in a near-hazardous situation.

Join Tom on his journey through various workplace scenarios in which the helmet plays a crucial role. “Tom’s Life” is more than just a series of videos—it’s an educational project that promotes workplace safety and raises awareness of PPE issues.

With “Tom’s Life,” BG BAU is using innovative training videos to convey the message of safety in a compelling way. Immerse yourself in Tom’s world and discover how seemingly small decisions can have a big impact.

What are the criteria for training videos?

The formula for success in creating an effective training video.

Careful planning and consideration of key factors are essential for a successful training video. No matter what type of training video you need—we’re the right partner for you. Professionally produced training videos offer an efficient way to convey knowledge in a structured manner and ensure that content is retained long-term. They allow learners to access information at any time and make it easier to understand complex topics. The most important elements to consider when creating a successful training video include:

Target Audience Focus

The content of the training video is precisely tailored to the target audience and the desired platform. Whether the audience consists of new employees, existing teams, or external participants, we tailor our videos precisely to the specific learning objectives and knowledge level of the target audience. This targeted customization promotes engagement and learning success.

Clarity and Focus

An effective training video is clearly structured and focuses on the essential content. The easy-to-understand presentation and a logically organized sequence of information ensure that viewers can quickly grasp and apply complex content. We offer both short and long formats that optimally support the learning process depending on the topic.

Clear explanations and visualizations

Our training videos use clear examples and incorporate a variety of visual aids to make the content easy to understand and memorable. Whether it’s graphics, animations, or screen recordings—we tailor the video to your specifications to enhance the learning process and keep viewers engaged.

Professional Quality

Professional quality is crucial to the effectiveness of a training video. With clear visuals, high-quality audio, and precise editing, the video is both easy to understand and professionally produced. This supports learning success and builds trust in the content.

Introduction and Motivation

A motivating opening is essential for capturing viewers’ attention right from the start. Our training videos begin with a clear introduction that explains the video’s purpose and benefits and piques viewers’ interest. An engaging opening motivates learners to stay focused and follow along with the content.

Here's what our customers say.

Why a training video?

Discover the compelling benefits of using video to convey knowledge.

Training videos offer numerous advantages over traditional classroom instruction. This format engages multiple senses simultaneously, which enhances retention of the information being taught. Compared to teachers, training videos allow for flexible use, as they can be paused and replayed at any time, and they can be presented to an unlimited number of viewers.

Another major advantage is its linguistic versatility. Once a training video has been produced, it can be translated into different languages using voice-overs or subtitles, allowing it to be used worldwide. This is particularly beneficial for large companies when training employees in areas such as compliance, occupational safety, or operational procedures. Training videos can also be used to create user manuals for customers.

Three additional benefits are:

Attract attention

Video content is extremely popular on the Internet, and people spend a lot of time watching videos. Videos are effective “thumbstoppers” that grab viewers’ attention and encourage them to take a closer look at the content.

Simplifying Complex Topics

Videos are particularly effective at illustrating complex topics—more so than text and images alone. For dynamic processes, a combination of video and audio is used to make the content easier to understand.

Emotional Bond

Unlike text-only content, explainer videos appeal not only to the rational mind but also to the emotions. This helps build a positive connection with the product or company, and viewers are more likely to remember content that has touched them emotionally.

Training videos are therefore an extremely effective way to convey complex information in an easy-to-understand manner while also establishing a strong connection with the audience.

How is a professional training video produced?

6 Essential Tips for Producing a High-Quality Training Video.

Customization

Every training video should be tailored to your specific needs. Consider the context in which your video will be used and which format is most appropriate.

Pay attention to the tone

In addition to visual quality, sound is crucial. Clear, well-written narration and appropriate music are essential for effectively conveying information. Using a professional narrator enhances the quality of your training video.

Build suspense

Start your training video with a compelling problem or an interesting starting point. A compelling opening motivates viewers to watch the entire video and increases their attention.

Appealing to Emotions

Don't just rely on facts—appeal to emotions as well. A compelling story or likable main characters can strengthen the emotional connection. Training videos engage multiple senses by combining graphics, a narrator's voice, sound effects, and appropriate music.

A Well-Crafted Story

The story is a key element of your training video. It serves as a guide that leads viewers through the explanation. Choose the complexity of your story carefully to strike the right balance.

Avoid Information Overload

When it comes to training videos, less is more. Keep your video engaging, but avoid including too many details that distract from the main points. Videos that are too long often cause viewers to stop watching early.

Invest in the production of your training video. It may be tempting to create a video yourself, but an experienced agency like PanFilm can make all the difference. Professionals use high-quality equipment and have extensive experience in storytelling, production, and post-production, which leads to more engaging and effective results.

How much does a training video cost?

A transparent overview of the costs associated with producing training videos.

Depending on your financial resources and your communication goals, producing a training video can be a challenging and complex process. However, this does not mean that a simpler video made on a more modest budget cannot be just as effective. To put it plainly: We have the expertise to create high-quality training videos, whether you have a large or limited budget. After all, the concept is what matters most, and it must align with our clients’ goals. A tried-and-true rule of thumb is that the budget for your training video should be proportionate to the size of your organization. Below, we’d like to explain the various factors that influence the cost estimate for your training video:

Pre-production

Pre-production encompasses all steps that take place before the actual filming begins. This includes client support and consultation, the conceptual development of the training film’s content and visuals, organizing the team and technical equipment, casting, scouting for suitable locations, obtaining filming permits, selecting props, and creating a storyboard. It also includes thorough preparation of the entire team, during which the project is discussed in detail.

Technology

A high-quality training video requires the appropriate technical equipment. In addition to a high-quality camera, this includes various light sources, tripods, camera accessories such as sliders or cranes, monitors, and transmission modules for the control room. In some cases, the use of a drone may also be necessary.

Acting and Voice-Over

The costs for actors and voice actors can vary widely and depend on various factors, including whether they are affiliated with an agency (which involves placement fees), their level of fame, and how the company plans to use the training video.

Production

Production includes the actual days of filming. The number of staff required and the technical requirements depend on the scope of the training film. The core team typically consists of a director, a cinematographer, a lighting technician, and a sound engineer. Larger productions require both technical and content-related staff.

Post-production

During post-production, the footage is reviewed, edited, color-corrected, and otherwise processed to bring the planned concept for the training video to life. Animations and sound design may also play a role in this process.

Music Licensing

Music often plays an important role in training videos. It can be selected from a library of pre-recorded, cost-effective, GEMA-free tracks, or it can be more elaborate if custom music needs to be composed specifically for your training video.

Correction Loop

The client usually has the opportunity to review the training video and suggest changes. These changes may relate to aspects such as the length of the video, the selection of scenes, and the music.

Additional Costs

Overhead costs include all expenses that are not directly related to the activities mentioned above but still incur costs. These include travel expenses, lodging costs, rental fees for filming locations, meals for crew and cast, expenses for props and costumes, administrative fees, and more.

It is important to understand that the cost of a training video depends on many individual factors and therefore cannot be determined on a flat-rate basis. Every film project is a unique work of craftsmanship and art that consists of a multitude of steps. Fair compensation for these steps is crucial to ensuring that both the client and the contractor can enjoy their work. It should also be noted that prices for film productions can vary significantly depending on the efficiency and experience of the producers involved. If you come across fixed-price quotes, you should be aware that these often involve standardized productions.

About 50 years and numerous training films later, we have once again produced a comprehensive video series on behalf of BG ETEM. This video series runs for about 150 minutes and focuses on the topic of radiation protection.

In six concise chapters, Professor Harald Lesch guides viewers through the fundamentals of the natural sciences as they relate to radiation. He covers various topics, such as the types of radiation, natural and man-made exposure to radiation, and the effects of ionizing radiation.

To make his explanations even more vivid, his studio presentations are accompanied by a variety of animations. In this video, for example, Professor Harald Lesch explains in detail the different types of radiation, their activities, and their half-lives.

In the practical videos we produced in a documentary style, viewers gain insight into various applications of ionizing radiation, such as X-rays and radiation sources in medicine and research.
