PLATH: SDI Core
For our client PLATH, we produced an impressive animated film for their keynote presentation at Intelligence Day 2024 in Oslo. The focus was on presenting the SDI Core, a revolutionary technology that did not yet physically exist at the time of production.
To bring this vision to life, we combined footage from earlier projects, such as the promotional video, with photorealistic 3D animations. These animations visualized the SDI Core and were seamlessly integrated with live-action footage, giving the animated film its unique impact.
A particular highlight was the first-ever use of an AI-generated voice for the narration, which perfectly underscored the technological advancements of the SDI Core. The SDI Core, a scalable system, uses artificial intelligence to increase efficiency and precision in crisis situations and reduce the workload on operators. The animated film impressively demonstrated how the SDI Core can be used in ground- and air-based operations and was a central element of the Intelligence Day presentation.

PLATH Group: Multi-domain Autonomous Intelligence
For the IDEX trade show, we visualized a visionary scenario—an innovative solution that does not yet exist in this form. To bring this idea to life, detailed animation sequences were essential to clearly illustrate complex processes and impressively showcase technical highlights.
What’s particularly exciting: For the scenes at the FOB (Forward Operating Base), we were able to use high-quality footage from the PLATH Group promotional video that we produced two years ago. This adds extra dynamism to the film and makes it even more authentic.
The result: an animated video that highlights cutting-edge technology while also underscoring the PLATH Group’s innovative strength and precision. Through a clear visual language and well-crafted animations, this complex topic is conveyed in an understandable way—and in a truly impressive manner.
What is an animated video?
Animated or explanatory videos have been booming for more than ten years. Numerous video production companies have specialized in this genre and create videos using a wide variety of techniques. These include the classic cutout animation technique, in which an animated hand arranges graphic elements on the screen. Or, even simpler, whiteboard scribbles, in which a hand is filmed as it sketches simple drawings and concepts on paper.
The next step up is a 2D video in which characters and illustrations are elaborately animated using software. Flat design avoids realistic depictions of textures, shadows, and three-dimensional elements. The idea here is to “reduce to the max” in order to direct the viewer’s focus to what’s essential. These videos are often very colorful and can be perfectly aligned with the company’s brand identity.
One of the latest trends is called isometric design. It is an evolution of flat design and other 3-D design styles. Unlike other 3-D designs, it does not feature vanishing lines or converging perspectives.
Animated videos offer unlimited creative freedom and are extremely versatile. PanFilm, your specialist in animated films, draws on a network of talented artists to achieve perfect results. pigadi: Berlin's Fountain Specialists
We had the opportunity to produce this promotional video with animated elements for pigadi, a Berlin-based well specialist. The client wanted a kind of explanatory video that shows customers what pigadi does for their horizontal filter wells to ensure they remain efficient. This is because many well operators are unaware of how important regular maintenance and regeneration of their wells are.
The challenge with this film was that much of the restoration and regeneration work carried out by pigadi takes place underwater by highly specialized professional divers and is therefore difficult to access with our equipment. Since we wanted to use as much live footage as possible, the only practical solution was to use an underwater drone. To illustrate the processes taking place around and within the filter strings, we created animations that make this invisible part of the action visible.

How is an animated film produced?
6 Steps to Creating Your Professional Animated Film.
Producing an animated video requires careful planning and precise execution. Here, you’ll learn what the typical workflow for an animated film production looks like.
The entire process, from the initial inquiry to the completion of the film, typically takes about one to three months, depending on the complexity of the project and internal coordination processes.
Thanks to our many years of experience, we create animated films that convey your messages creatively and precisely. Here’s how the production process works:
Concept Development and Goal Setting
It all starts with clearly defining your goals and the key messages your animated video is meant to convey. Together, we’ll develop a creative concept and a visual design that best brings your vision to life.
Storyboard and Design
Based on the storyline we’ve created, we’ll turn your idea into a detailed storyboard. This visualizes the flow of the film and serves as a blueprint for the animation. The design of the characters and graphics is also developed during this phase and tailored to your corporate identity.
Animation Preparation
Technical preparation takes place before the actual animation begins. We determine the style (e.g., 2D animation, flat design, or 3D animation) and select the appropriate software. Voiceovers and sound effects are also organized at this stage.
Animation
Now the actual animation begins: the characters, objects, and scenes are brought to life. Our experienced animators bring the storyboard to life, ensuring smooth transitions and an engaging presentation of your messages.
Post-production
Once the animation is complete, post-production begins. Music, sound effects, and the final voice-over are added, and the film is edited to ensure it is polished to perfection. This step also includes review sessions with you to ensure that the final product meets your expectations.
Publication
Once the animated film is complete, we’ll handle its distribution on the platforms of your choice. Whether it’s for your website, social media, or presentations—we’ll make sure your animated film reaches exactly the target audience you want to reach.
An animated video is a flexible, creative medium that conveys your messages clearly and engagingly. Trust our expertise to bring your vision to life in a stunning animated film.

msg Systems: 40th Anniversary Celebration
We produced this film for the 40th-anniversary celebration of the IT company msg Systems AG, based in Ismaning near Munich.
Due to the pandemic, it was not possible to hold a large party with more than 8,000 employees to celebrate the anniversary, so the event was moved entirely online. There, employees were able to move around the building in a 3D environment modeled after the headquarters in Ismaning.
This film was shown in one of the “walk-in” rooms and explains the business model of msg Systems AG.
How much does an animated video cost?
Depending on your financial resources and your communication goals, the production of an animated film can vary in terms of effort and complexity. However, this by no means implies that an animated film made on a more modest budget cannot be just as effective. Thanks to our experience, we can bring to life both high-budget projects and impressive films on a limited budget.
It is crucial that the film’s idea and concept align perfectly with your company’s goals. A proven rule of thumb is that the budget for your animated film should be proportionate to the size and objectives of your organization.
Here are some of the key factors that influence the cost of producing an animated film:
Pre-production
As with any film production, the creation of an animated film begins with an intensive pre-production phase. This includes consulting with the client, developing the storyboard and visual concept, and creating a detailed production plan. The selection of style, characters, and elements is also crucial at this stage.
Style and Animation Type
The style and type of animation play a major role in cost calculations. Simpler whiteboard sketches or cutout techniques are generally more cost-effective, while elaborate 2D or 3D animations—such as flat design or isometric representations—require significantly more time and resources. Depending on the level of detail and complexity of the animation, the costs increase accordingly.
Technical Specifications
While animated films do not require actual on-set filming, their production still demands advanced technical equipment and specialized software. High-quality animation software and powerful hardware for rendering are essential for achieving the desired visual effects.
Voice-over and Sound Design
A well-produced animated video often requires a voice-over artist who can convey the message clearly and engagingly. The cost of professional voice-over artists varies depending on their level of fame and the scope of the project. Sound design—such as music and sound effects—is also a major cost factor. Custom-composed music or licensed audio material affects pricing.
Animation Duration and Complexity
The length and complexity of an animated film are key factors in determining its cost. Longer or more technically demanding animations require more time in post-production and, consequently, a larger budget. Different scenes, changes in perspective, or complex movements increase the amount of work involved.
Post-production
Post-production for an animated video involves refining the animations, editing, adding music and sound effects, and fine-tuning the video and audio. During this phase, corrections and changes can also be made to ensure the video is tailored to the client’s specifications.
Correction Loop
Similar to traditional film productions, animated films also offer the opportunity to review the finished film and make adjustments. These rounds of revisions are necessary to achieve the best possible result, but they can incur additional costs if many changes are requested.
The cost of producing an animated video depends heavily on the complexity, the desired style, and the length of the film. A well-conceived and professionally produced animated film can significantly enhance your communication and is a worthwhile investment. Trust our expertise to create a custom-made animated film that conveys your message clearly and emotionally.
