Promotional video for DAK.

“Freischwimmer” is a promotional video that uses a fictional storyline to explore typical challenges of growing up.

David’s friends are horrified when they learn that, at his parents’ insistence, he is supposed to take an apprenticeship in a city 400 km away after graduating from middle school. This sudden decision hits his girlfriend, Nele, particularly hard, and she attempts to take her own life. David manages to save her from drowning at the last moment, but Nele’s condition is critical. While Nele fights for her life, David’s friends try to find him an apprenticeship locally. In the process, they learn just how difficult it is to grow up.

The promotional video was produced as part of a large-scale DAK branding campaign specifically targeting young people aged 15 to 20. The DAK or the topic of health insurance isn’t mentioned at all in the film, as the sole aim was to use a compelling story to connect with young people in their current life situations and, in a very subtle way, position the DAK as a partner for health insurance.
